#1 Production Rentals Assistant
- Reports to Production Coordinator
- $16 per hour @ 32 hrs per week
- June 18th 2020 to August 28th 2020
Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist in the maintenance and repair of FAVA’s large production inventory of film and video equipment.
- Assist with FAVA’s Membership and community production initiatives
- Assist with the continued development of FAVA TV online production and distribution
- Assist with organizational deliverables including events, facility renovation, etc.
Supervision Plan
- Student Employee will be under the direct supervision of the FAVA Production Coordinator
- Student Employee will work alongside their supervisor to ensure that they are developing the knowledge and skills necessary to independently deliver Production tasks and needs
Skill Development
Client Services: As the FAVA Production Assistant, the Student Employee will be required to work alongside the productions coordinator and to liaise with members and facilitate their equipment needs.
Team work: Our productions team is a very small team of three that works closely together in order to responds and fulfills a wide variety of production services to FAVA members.
Communications: Communications is at the core of the successful operation of our organization. FAVA staff communicate daily with:

Digital Skills: The FAVA Production Assistant will become conversant with our Online Digital Arts Management App (AMS-Network) in particularly the equipment, billing, budget and venue management modules.
Leadership: Staff are relied upon to identify opportunities and problems and to take ownership to communicate issues and/or solutions to the person they report to. This expectation extends to all levels of our staffing including temporary employment program staff.
Technical Skills: (other) With the assistance of the Production Coordinator, the Production Assistant will gain familiarization and facility with a wide range of Camera, Sound, lighting and Grip technology and show a basic understanding of the care and maintenance for each piece of equipment they are required to prepare.
Field of Interest or Study
- Person with a strong background in, or interest in film, video and digital media Production would be the best candidate for this position.
- They should also be interested in various aspects of multi-media and computer technology as the position requires a person willing to learn about and understand the nature and integration of crossover and cross platform technologies.
- Second year students and graduates from any media arts college or university program would be ideal.
- Must have sound written and inter-personal skills

#2 – Facilities Management Assistant
- Reports to Facilities Coordinator and Marketing Director

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist in the day to day operations of the FAVA Studios
- Venues include a 300-seat theater
- 4 sound stages
- 2 recording studios
- a black box studio
- dark room
- Assist in the booking and maintenance of venues and equipment
- Assist with tours and booking support
- Assist with client outreach and acquisition (developing and executing strategic engagement with support and guidance from Marketing and Communications
- Help build relationships between the arts community and the FAVA Studios
- Assist with organizational deliverables including events, facility renovation, etc.
Supervision Plan
- Student Employee will be under the direct supervision of the FAVA Facilities Coordinator.
- Student Employee will work alongside their supervisor to ensure that they are developing the knowledge and skills necessary to independently deliver Facilities and Engagement tasks and needs
Skill Development
Client Services: As the FAVA Facilities Assistant, the Student Employee will be required to work alongside the Facilities Coordinator and to promote, book, manage and operate FAVA’s various production facilities and sound stages, as well as to liaise with the industry and operational partners
Team work: The Facilities Team is a very small team of two that works closely with FAVA Production and Programming in order to fulfill the production facility needs of our members and the Edmonton Public.

# 3 AMS App Jr. Developer (Software Developer)
- Reports to AMS Project Manager

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist in the development, and maintenance of modules, plug-ins, and features being created for this national data base management application
- Explore the possibilities of creating an inhouse App development team using Ruby on Rails, Heroku, AWS, etc.
- Assist with the creation of AMS updates, pushes and iterations
- Assist with the transfer, uploading and porting of program data
Supervision Plan
- Student Employee will be under the direct supervision of the FAVA Director of AMS-Network.
- Student Employee will work alongside their supervisor to ensure that they are developing the knowledge and skills necessary to independently deliver AMS outcomes and needs
Skill Development
Client Services: FAVA is in the ongoing development of the FAVA AMS-Network system. This is an App composed of Modules, plug-ins and features that provide management tools to Artist Run Centres across Canada. The Student Employee will be required to work alongside the AMS Project Manager and the Executive Director to liaise with our local, Provincial, and national members in order to develop and disseminate the AMS-Network system to our Users and Partners and to train them in its application.
Team work: The FAVA AMS-Network team is an extensive group of Developers, Users and Partners that works together across Canada to develop and disseminate the App and its features to its organizational partners. There is a significant amount or opportunity to learn customer service, solve partners’ problems, present to partners and bridge the gap between layperson needs and technological solutions.

Technical Skills: With the assistance of the AMS Director of Development the AMS Dev Assistant will gain familiarization and facility with the FAVA heritage digitization system and its relationship to the AMS-Network system in order to support the collections and exhibitions modules of FAVA AMS.
Field of Interest or Study
- A strong background in or interest in, web development and/or digital content management, would be the best candidate for this position
- Familiarity with AJAX, Rest API, AWS, JSON- SQL, REACT, and other similar tools would be an asset
- Second year students and graduates from any digital design institute, college or university program would be ideal
- Must have sound written and inter-personal skills

# 4 Marketing and Communications Assistant
- Reports to Marketing, Communications and Events Director
- $16 per hour @ 32 hrs per week

Tasks and Responsibilities
- Assist with the research, development, and implementation of new marketing and outreach deliverables for each department (social media, templates, initiatives, strategies, etc.)
- Assist with the content development and design for digital and non-digital marketing campaigns
- Assist with website updates and content development
- Assist the MarCom and Events Director with designated engagement projects and events
- Assist with building and optimizing of digital marketing templates and with reporting on campaign and web metrics
Supervision Plan
- Student Employee will be under the direct supervision of the FAVA Director of Marketing, Communications and Events
- Student Employee will work alongside their supervisor to ensure that they are developing the knowledge and skills necessary to independently deliver the required organizational MarComEvents tasks and needs
Skill Development
Client Services: Having just brought it’s 23,000 sq. ft. production facility online, FAVA will have to develop both conventional and social media campaign to create awareness about the facility, it’s programs and features.
The Student Employee will be required to work alongside the Director of Marketing, Communications and events to liaise with staff, contractors, members, partners and filmmakers, as well as business and community interests to grow FAVA’s awareness and reach
Team work: The FAVA MarCom Assistant will work closely with team leaders from FAVA AMS-Network, Production, Facilities, and Education in order to understand and help them meet their communications and marketing goals and objectives.
They will also work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications and the Executive Director to ensure that the marketing and outreach goals of the organization are being pursued and achieved.

- Comfortable using WordPress – advanced skills a plus
- Comfortable using e-campaign tools (e.g. Mail Chimp, social media platforms, etc.)
- Proficient with Office 365 tools (Word, Excel) – competency with SharePoint a plus
Leadership: Staff are relied upon to identify opportunities and problems and to take ownership to communicate issues and/or solutions to the person they report to. This expectation extends to all levels of our staffing including temporary employment program staff.
Technical Skills: the MarCom Assistant will apply/expand their knowledge and ability to use graphic design tools (e.g. Photoshop and Indesign) and publishing tools, as well as event planning apps to mention but a few.
Field of Interest or Study
- Person with a strong background in or interest in, marketing, communications, graphic design, content development and/or website management would be the best candidate for this position
- Familiarity with graphic design tools such as the Adobe suite of products, social media tools such as Facebook and twitter, and event planning tools such as Eventbrite and other similar tools would be an asset
- Second year students and graduates from any marketing communications or design institute, college or university program would be ideal.
