FAVA’s equipment is available to any member provided they show competency and safe use of the equipment. Mistreated or damaged equipment can result in hefty expenses for the co-op and suspension of rental privileges. Most equipment comes with instruction manuals. These manuals are obligatory reading when using any piece of equipment for the first time. In order to avoid situations of misuse with especially sensitive or expensive gear, members must display proficient and safe use to the Director of Production before renting the gear.
We want you to get out there and make media art. If there isn’t a class or a workshop covering what you are interested in learning, FAVA members can contact our Director of Programming at firstname.lastname@example.org to set up one-on-one, member-to-member training through our Access to Artists program.
FAVA Endowment Fund
Let's reach $100 000
The Society established an endowment fund in 2012 and has contributed to it in 2013, 2014, and 2015. The fund is administered by the Edmonton Community Foundation. The purpose of the fund is to create an investment resource that will help sponsor artist training, production and distribution far into Alberta’s future.

You must be a member in good standing to rent equipment (accounts and membership dues or equivalent contribution).
Equipment rentals are subject to the co-op’s mandate – in which the member has creative control over the project.
You are responsible for the condition of equipment on the shoot and upon its return.
You are responsible for providing disposables such as batteries, adaptors, etc.
Rentals are due back by noon of the agreed upon return date.
Late returns are subject to extra billing.
Please return equipment in as good or better shape than when you got it. Cables should be neatly coiled, etc.
Book ahead – avoid disappointment.
Most equipment comes in a protective case to ensure the safe handling of delicate components. Please guard the equipment from exposure to moisture, excessive heat, cold and dust.
FAVA requires a Pro-Res Apple 422 quicktime file of completed projects for archival and grant purposes.

FAVA provides insurance for FAVA’s rental equipment. To help cover a portion of the costs we charge a small fee based on the rental amount.
Comprehensive & General Liability insurance may be available upon request for a fee of $50
Insurance becomes void if equipment is left unsupervised, used in an unsafe manner or in conflict with the laws of Alberta.
Insurance becomes void if equipment is used in a moving vehicle (land, water, air) or from a height of 15m or greater.
If a claim is needed, the deductible is $2500 to be paid by the renting member.

General Members – 2% of rental invoice amount
Producer/Lifetime Members – 1% of rental invoice amount, general liability no charge
General & Liability Insurance
A major benefit of being a FAVA member is having access to our general & liability insurance. Here’s how it works:
You have your shoot dates and location scouted and now you need the paper work to gain access to the location. At least 2 – 3 weeks in advance, go to FAVA’s website and download the insurance application form at the bottom of this page
Fill out the insurance application form
Email the application form along with a separate budget and a separate film synopsis to email@example.com
Call 780-429-1671 to confirm receipt of the insurance application form
At this time, FAVA will review your application package to be sure we can move forward with supporting it. Once we have given it the OK, we’ll pass it along to our insurance contact to let them know that you and your project are eligible. We will then send you an email asking you to connect with them directly to finalize the insurance.
If you are unable to send in your application form 2 – 3 weeks in advance, give us a call at the office and we’ll do our best to help make it happen.
Twenty FAVA Bucks are awarded for each volunteer hour worked. These Bucks can then be used to offset up to half of a member’s production invoices. FAVA Bucks will not be accepted for workshops, membership dues, film or tape purchase, or special events. Our system rewards those who contribute their energy and time to the organization, and gives opportunities to become immediately involved in the operations and projects of the co-operative.

35mm, Super 16, 16mm, Super 8, 4K, 2K, HD, BluRay, DVCAM, Mini DV, BETA SP, 3/4 SP, DigiBETA, SVHS and VHS.
What is FAVA?
FAVA TV developed through the ongoing efforts of FAVA Staff, FAVA Board of Directors, and the FAVA Membership to address the need to screen and promote valuable film and video works, especially those which may otherwise find limited access online. It’s a place for these works to live on – an archive of sorts, but also a very living collection and curation of arts. FAVA TV is aimed at sharing the works and profiles of members of our local and global film, video, and arts community.
