FAVA's Production Grants

Supporting the creation of new work from our members

WHAT ARE FAVA'S PRODUCTION GRANTS?

Every year, FAVA hands out Production Grants to support the production of new work by our membership. These grants are named after filmmakers from the community, and we would like to share a little bit about each of them:

Helen Folkmann was a filmmaker, painter, and passionate supporter of the arts. She served as Executive Director of FAVA, and was a driving force for the Edmonton International Film Festival, Global Visions Film Festival, Alberta Media Artists Alliance Society, and Independent Media Arts Alliance. Notable credits include The Sybil’s Song, L’Autre Bicyclette, and Opus d’Amour.

Lisa Trofimova was a multi-disciplinary artist and a nationally recognized filmmaker, whose work spanned many genres. Glimps of Desire, M4, and My Favourite Bath were examples of Lisa’s groundbreaking work.

Joe Viszmeg was a founding and influential member of FAVA. A director, editor, writer, Joe was a Gemini winner. His credits include My Healing Journey and City of Champions.

Alex Thomas-Haug enjoyed video studies at Victoria School of Performing and Visual Arts and was nominated for Best Narrator at the 2004 AMPIA Awards. After graduation, Alex assisted with the sound recording of several documentaries and made snowboarding videos as a hobby. The Thomas-Haug family and FAVA created the Emerging Artist Award in his memor
