Formally trained in sculpture and photography at Red Deer College’s Art and Design Program, and Mount Allison University, Sackville, New Brunswick; Tim has been actively working in the Edmonton artistic community since 1982.
Never one to be defined by the traditional constructs of Art, Tim’s work is multi-disciplinary, resulting in experimental plays and performances, musical sculptures, installations, and environments. Primarily working in film and video, Tim has exhibited locally, nationally and internationally in tours and festivals. Tim is also a strong creative collaborator, contributing his unique creative vision and aesthetic skills along with Edmonton’s most innovative artists. These multi media co-productions have subsequently resulted in some of the most exciting new works to come out of Edmonton in recent years.
Tim also works as a media instructor, work shop leader, and mentor for colleges, arts groups, professional associations and inner city youth. Tim has served on numerous arts juries, advisory councils, and non-profit boards. His artistic works have been collected nationally. Tim’s eclectic and innovative approach to art-making has garnered him local and international awards and acclaim including the Edmonton Arts Council’s Trust Fund award,Alberta Motion picture Award and the Telus Artist of the Future award. Tim Folkmann’s ability to push the edges of artistic media and his ability to venture with others into the wild woods of creation in film, sculpture, theatre, dance or performance, make him a valuable, productive and unique member of Canada’s cultural community.
