FAVA is always looking to add to our roaster of fun, engaging and skilled instructors for the variety of classes, workshops and member-to-member learning opportunities throughout the year. Instructors are paid $40 per hour, and instructing opportunities range from two-hour sessions to ongoing mentorships.

Are you an experienced camera operator, sound technician, or colour grader? Have you mastered the art of grant writing or storyboarding? Do you have a desire to share your acquired knowledge with emerging artists in our community?

About FAVA & Position Opportunity
FAVA is a non-profit, charitable, member-based society that exists to facilitate and support affordable access to production, exhibition, distribution, and preservation of independent film, video and screen media art in Northern Alberta. FAVA welcomes individuals from all backgrounds, with a community-oriented drive to assist our members and community partners. FAVA is looking for an individual with self-drive and high motivation, who is looking for the opportunity to learn multiple facets of film, video, art and community while continuing their professional and artistic development.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Chief of Staff, the Studios & Facilities Manager represents the organization as the face of FAVA Studios and leads the operations of FAVAs Studios & Facilities, as managed on behalf of the City of Edmonton and FAVA. The Studios Manager is responsible for all regular operations of the studios and facilities, collaborating with the programming and production department on training and educational activities as well as identifying and maintaining key partnership opportunities in the production and artistic communities. The Studios & Facilities Manager will work closely with FAVA members in fulfilling their productions acting as a subject matter expert and providing meaningful guidance to members. The Studios & Facilities Manager will seek to engage and create relationships with partners and other stakeholders in the community.

Duties & Responsibilities Summary:

  • Coordinates and fulfills any administrative duties related to the studios and facilities; answering phone calls, emails, greeting visitors/members; provides studio and facility tours to interested parties.
  • Manages all studio and facility bookings (manages calendar, bookings, inquiries, etc); obtains all applicable forms, insurance and deposits for bookings.
  • Responsible for responding to and problem solving any issues that may arise onsite with regards to FAVA assets (i.e., related to facility or equipment in the facility).
  • Responsible for administering general financial transactions related to studio and facilities (invoicing, providing estimates, processing payments in house through POS terminal, corresponding online payments to invoices, etc.)
  • Prepares regular reports to the Chief of Staff, City of Edmonton, and Board of Directors on studio and facility usage statistics as well as reports used for granting purposes.
  • Manages the department budget alongside the Chief of Staff, and Fund Development Officer the yearly budget, projections and actuals. 
  • Responsible for purchases and acquisition of expenses, supplies, services, equipment, maintenance, etc., for the department and the coding of expenses.

Qualifications Include:

  • Self-directed and driven to learn and evolve in the department.
  • Ability to be self-sustaining in the department, among being able to work collaboratively with other department heads.
  • Ability to problem solve on the fly.
  • Ability to multitask.
  • Providing excellent customer service to our members and the community with strong communication skills both written and verbally.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, Adobe Create Cloud, Apple Pro Apps Suite.
  • Experience in: Audio-Video both digital and analog, computer software and hardware, and IT-Networking or willingness to learn.
  • A Diploma in a post-secondary film / video, or digital media program preferred however not required.
  • Basic construction knowledge.

  • Ability to lift up to 50lbs independently
  • Ability to work in office at FAVA

Expectations:
This job may sometimes require time and commitment outside of regular working hours including during lunch breaks, evenings and weekends. Depending on the situation, compensation for these needs can be addressed through adjusting the standard workday schedule or banking hours with Chief of Staff approval.

This role may be required to travel, present, facilitate and act as a media spokesperson.

This role involves engaging people (members and non-members) who may face language, psychological, physical, social, economic, or other barriers.

Call for Volunteers

EVENT ASSISTANCE

FAVA is looking for a few volunteers to help with the end-of-year event on November 24. Volunteers will also get a chance to enjoy the SOLD-OUT event once their shift is over! Please email [email protected] if you are interested in helping out and indicate the shift you are looking to fill.

Volunteers will be provided with

  • Individual snacks and beverages.
  • FAVA Bucks for hours worked. ($20 FAVA bucks/hour).

COAT CHECK ATTENDANT – 1 Volunteer needed

Job Description: The Coat Check Attendants are responsible for collecting, storing, and returning coats and items dropped off by guests.

REGISTRATION TABLE ATTENDANT – 1 Volunteer needed

Job Description: The registration attendant will be responsible (alongside FAVA/ESIO staff members) for greeting and checking in guests when they arrive, hand out drink tickets, handle door prize entries and provide general event information.

GENERAL CREW FOR VIRTUAL PRODUCTION – 
6 Volunteers needed (can volunteer for one or all)
Job Description: General crew members will be required to assist with virtual production wall load-in, setup, assisting production and film crew, tear-down and load-out etc. Must be able to move and lift heavy equipment.
Dates/Times:

SEAMSTER

October 20 – November 20 (one day)

FAVA is looking for a volunteer experienced with sewing and hemming to help with our studio upgrades. The volunteer would be needed for one day, 6-8 hours, any day between October 20th and November 20th. $20 FAVA Bucks/hour will be earned.

Photographers Needed!

Early 2023

FAVA is looking for TWO photographers with experience doing headshots and portraits for an event early next year (2023). Time needed will be aprx. 9:30am to 7:30pm. Meals will be provided. Volunteers earn $20 FAVA Bucks/hour ($200 total).
