FAVA is always looking to add to our roaster of fun, engaging and skilled instructors for the variety of classes, workshops and member-to-member learning opportunities throughout the year. Instructors are paid $40 per hour, and instructing opportunities range from two-hour sessions to ongoing mentorships.

Are you an experienced camera operator, sound technician, or colour grader? Have you mastered the art of grant writing or storyboarding? Do you have a desire to share your acquired knowledge with emerging artists in our community?

Summer Production Rentals Assistant

Compensation: $16/hr, 40hrs/week, 13 weeks

About: FAVA is currently looking for a Production Rentals Assistant to join the FAVA team for 16 weeks in the summer of 2022. FAVA is a non-profit, charitable organization whose mandate is to support the creation, production, exhibition and distribution of film, video and media art in Northern Alberta.

FAVA serves members with diverse backgrounds and levels of experience, ranging from emerging, mid-career, to established artists with an unwavering passion for film, video and media art. FAVA offers a variety of workshops for artistic and skill development; is a resource for production equipment facilities; hosts events and screenings; and fosters and develops a dynamic media arts community in Northern Alberta.

Job Description: The Production Rentals Assistant will be responsible for assisting with the daily operations of FAVAs large production equipment inventory and rentals which includes: maintenance and repair of film and video equipment, assisting with membership and community production initiatives, project based initiatives to better enhance the production depot and to create content for FAVATV, assist with organizational deliverables including events, facility renovation, etc.

These tasks include fielding phone calls and e-mails with rental and technical inquiries, prepping and checking equipment for film shoots, overseeing the return and invoicing of equipment rentals, servicing gear both in house and coordinating repairs. Other duties and project-based tasks will be assigned based on the skill-set of the applicant.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passionate interest in film, video and media arts
  • Video and post-production experience. Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
  • Familiarity with a variety of film & video cameras, lighting, sound & grip equipment
  • Strong organizational skills and be highly self-motivated
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work both independently and in a team environment
  • A desire to facilitate the creation of media art in Alberta
  • Post Secondary student in film / arts or related experience.

Summer Facilities Assistant

Job Description: The Facilities Assistant will be required to work alongside the Facilities Manager on the daily operations of FAVA Studios to promote, book, manage, and operate FAVA’s various production facilities, as well as to liaise with the industry, members, and operational partners.

Studios include:

  • 4 Filming Studios
  • 2 Recording Studios
  • 1 Post-Production Suite
  • 1 Dark Room

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the booking and maintenance of studios and their equipment
  • Assist with tours and booking support
  • Assist with client outreach and acquisition (developing and executing strategic engagement with support and guidance from Marketing and Communications)
  • Help build relationships between the arts community and FAVA
  • Assist with organization deliverables including events, facility renovations, and more.

These tasks include fielding phone calls and e-mails with studio rental and technical inquiries, facility tours and booking support, client outreach and other project-based tasks based on the skill set of the applicant.

Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

  • Interest in various aspects of facility management including venue booking, equipment maintenance, budgeting, licensing, and promotion
  • Strong written and inter-personal skills
  • Strong organizational skills and be highly self-motivated

AMS Out-Reach Assistant

Compensation: $20/hour,  32 hours/week, 14 weeks (with the possibility of an extension)

About: FAVA AMS-Network is currently looking for an Out-Reach Assistant to join the team for 14 weeks in the summer of 2022. AMS App is an all-in-one, web-based arts management platform for member-based artist centre’s, designed from the ground up by the Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA).

This is an App composed of modules, plug-ins, and features that provide management tools to Artist-Run Centres across Canada, such as the:

  • management of membership data
  • programs and events
  • equipment and facilities
  • custom reporting
  • presentation and exhibition
  • archival storage
  • grant submissions

FAVA is in the ongoing development of the FAVA AMS-Network system.

Job Description: The AMS Outreach Assistant will be required to work alongside the Director of AMS Outreach and Development to liaise with our local, Provincial, and National members in order to develop and disseminate the AMS-Network Workshop tools to our Users and Partners and to train them in its application.

Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Assist with the research, development, and implementation of new marketing and outreach strategies for AMS-Network Software with an emphasis on the French-Canadian Artist community
  • Assist with the design and copywriting of various survey and marketing campaigns
  • Assist the AMS-Network Outreach Director with designated engagement projects and events
  • Create bilingual workshop and tutorial materials for AMS software
  • Assist with the onboarding of new AMS-Network users

 Qualifications: The ideal candidate will have:

  • Must be Bilingual (French/English)
  • A strong background in or interest in, education, communications, graphic design, content management, and or copywriting, would be the best candidate for this position
  • Familiarity with graphic design tools such as the Adobe suite of products and the Microsoft Office Suite of Tools
  • There is no educational requirement, but second-year students and graduates from any digital design institute, college, or university program would be ideal.
  • Experience or interest in project management and content development
  • Be a creative and collaborative problem-solver
  • Strong organizational skills and be highly self-motivated
  • Strong ability to multi-task and work both independently and in a team environment
  • Knowledge and ability to use graphic design tools, social media, publishing tools, and event planning apps is an asset.

Call for Volunteers

Bartending and Concessions Attendant
Volunteer Need: 2 per night
Dates: Tuesday, May 24th – Saturday, May 28th
Hours: 6:00pm-10:00pm (Tues-Fri), 4:30pm-10:00pm (Saturday)
Description: We are looking for volunteers to run our concession and bar and serve the attendants (cans and wine only; no mixed drinks).
Skills needed: Proserve certification required and previous events experience is considered an asset.
FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr

 

Box Office Attendant
Volunteer Need: 1-2 per night
Dates: Tuesday, May 24th – Saturday, May 28th
Hours: 6:00pm-8:00pm
Description: We are looking for volunteers to run our box office. You will be taking donations for ticket sales at the doors of the event.
Skills needed: Experience handling cash and debit transactions and events experience is considered an asset.
FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr

BBQ Attendant / Grillmaster
Volunteer Need
: 2
Dates: Saturday, May 28th
Hours: 4:00pm-7:00pm
Description: For this position, you will be operating the outdoor BBQ, cooking burgers and hot dogs for the guests as needed.
Skills needed: Previous experience in food service or relevant experience required. ProServe certification and previous events experience is considered an asset.
FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr
