VIDEO KITCHEN

The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA) is accepting applications for Class Instructor for the upcoming Video Kitchen course.

Video Kitchen is one of FAVA’s long-standing classes. It is a 12-class course that provides training in the basics of digital video production. Classes are comprised of a mixture of lecture based learning and hands on practical exercises. Outside of class time, each participant produces their own short four to six minute video using FAVA equipment.

Class Dates: Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. September 18th – December 11th, 2021, with no class October 9th.

Location: The Orange Hub (10045 156 Street NW)

INTERMEDIATE SCREENWRITING

The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA) is accepting applications for Class Instructor for the upcoming Intermediate Screenwriting class.

This 10 week workshop-style class is for participants with some experience/familiarity with dramatic screenwriting requires them to submit a sample of their writing (completed screenplay or several sample scenes) for submission. The instructor will be determining admission into this class based on those samples. Instructor will lead weekly workshops centered around the reviewing, editing, critiquing, and finalizing of the participants’ screenplays.

Class Dates: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. September 21st, 2021 – November 23rd, 2021.

MAIN COURSE

The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA) is accepting applications for Class Instructor for the upcoming Main Course class.

Main Course is one of FAVA’s long-standing classes. This 12-class course is a follow up to our Video Kitchen Class, providing intermediate training in the basics of digital video and film production. Classes are comprised of a mixture of lecture-based learning and hands on practical exercises, with a curriculum that is tailored to the interests and skill level of class participants. Outside of class time, each participant produces their own short four to six minute video using FAVA equipment.

Class Dates: Saturdays 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. February 26th – May 21st, 2022, with no class April 16th.

Location: The Orange Hub (10045 156 Street NW)

INTRO TO SCREENWRITING

The Film and Video Arts Society of Alberta (FAVA) is accepting applications for Class Instructor for the upcoming Intro to Screenwriting class.

This 10 week workshop-style class leads participants through the development of a one-hour teleplay, short form, or feature length script. Instruction will cover script formatting, story structure, character development, and all other essential elements of storytelling.

Class Dates: Tuesdays 6:30 p.m. – 9p.m. February 15th – April 19th, 2022.

Call for Volunteers

Equipment Rentals:

When: Recurring, Fridays from 10am-12pm.

Description: Assist with packing and preparing equipment rentals.

Time commitment needed will depend on size and number of bookings

Not only will this assist the equipment rentals department, but volunteers will also gain experience handling, testing, and working with our large inventory of equipment. 

Skills needed: Ability to lift up to 50lbs. Knowledge of basic film/video/lighting/grip equipment is an asset.

FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr

Equipment Rentals:

When: 4-8 hours, by avalibility before Aug 20th

Description: Rentals is looking for a volunteer to help calibrate our Heden YMER-3 Follow Focus, to pair it with our inventory of cinema lenses!

The volunteer will pair the motor, make lens profiles inside the handset, match lenses to the correct focus discs, and make a document for members to refer to when renting our lenses and follow focus.

Skills needed: Experience with cinema camera lenses, and cinema cameras.

FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr

Administrative:

When: By availability.

Description: Build a Sharepoint site for handling internal organizational folders and documents, and train the staff on how to use it.

This project does not have a time frame but the sooner we can implement the site the better. 

Skills needed: Intermediate Sharepoint knowledge and design. Ability to train staff.

FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr

Studios & Facilities:

When: 3 Hours, by availability from July 20 – Aug 21.

Description: Painting the CVC wall in Studio D with a fresh coat of white.

Skills needed: Painting, attention to detail.

FAVA Bucks Earned: $20/hr ($60 total)

Call for Availability and Interest

Are you an experienced camera operator, sound technician, or colour grader? Have you mastered the art of grant writing or storyboarding? Do you have a desire to share your acquired knowledge with emerging artists in our community?

FAVA is developing a roster of instructors for a variety of member-to-member learning opportunities. Instructors are paid $40 per hour, and instructing opportunities range from two-hour sessions to ongoing mentorships.
