Take your storytelling to the next level! This workshop-style class is intended for writers with some experience in/familiarity with dramatic screenwriting and screenplay format. Admission to the workshop will be determined by the instructor in consultation with FAVA, based on the submission of a sample of your writing (completed screenplay or several sample scenes) and a short synopsis of the project you wish to work on during the course. Students will be expected to have completed or near completed first drafts coming into the class, as class time will be dedicated to workshopping each script.

Class Payment and Cancellation Policy

Your enrollment in any class is not guaranteed until payment is received.  Classes must be paid for at least one week before the first class.  You may cancel your enrollment in a class one week before the first class without charge.  Cancellations made less than a week before the first class will be refunded the full amount less a $50 cancellation fee.  Cancellations made after the first class will be refunded the tuition less a $50 cancellation fee and the appropriate portion of the total tuition for the one class you attended. You must cancel before the date of the second class to receive a refund. All classes are subject to cancellation if there are insufficient registered participants.  We will notify you regarding cancellation at least one week before the first class.  If we cancel the class, you are entitled to a full refund or you may transfer to another scheduled class, space permitting.

Intermediate Screenwriting

About the Instructor: Conni Massing

Conni is an award-winning screenwriter and playwright who also works steadily as a story consultant and writing instructor. She has been a series story editor and/or written episodes for The Beat, North of 60, The Adventures of Shirley Holmes, Taking It Off, Family Restaurant and Mentors. Film projects include two feature-length comedies (in development), Invisible, co-written with and directed by Neil Grahn, and Voila! co-produced with director Geraldine Carr. Recent stage credits include her hit comedy Oh! Christmas Tree (Roxy Performance Series at Theatre Network), Matara (Workshop West Playwrights Theatre), Pants on Fire, The Mommy Monologues (Skirtsafire Festival), and The Invention of Romance (Workshop West Playwrights Theatre) as well as her widely-produced stage adaptations of W.O Mitchell’s Jake and the Kid and Bruce Allen Powe’s The Aberhart Summer. Conni has several publications to her credit, including six of her plays and a comic memoir, Roadtripping: On the Move with the Buffalo Gals (Brindle and Glass Publishing).  Her writing has been recognized by AMPIA, the Academy of Cinema and Television, the Betty Mitchell Awards, the Writers Guild of Alberta and the Elizabeth Sterling Haynes Awards. Conni is currently serving as the Regional Writer-in-Residence for Strathcona County Library and St. Albert Public Library.
