Rick Gustavsen is a 39-year veteran of the Alberta motion picture industry and founding member of the Film and Video Arts Society – Alberta. As an independent documentarian, he has shot footage on every continent in the world except Antarctica. At las count, he had seven features under his belt and more than a thousand short films, videos and alternative art project. Come and help us celebrate Rick’s lifetime commitment to FAVA and some of his many accomplishments!

The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking recognize exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film. To be eligible to be nominated, a film must have played at THREE A-list international film festival. FAVA FEST brings you this rare opportunity to see the world’s best in cinematic non-fiction, in our screening of the 2014 nominated short films.

Join FAVA members Niobe Thompson and aAron Munson for an exclusive preview of selects from their upcoming CBC Nature of Things documentary series “The Human Odyssey” and some of the stories from their filmmaking adventures. Back in Edmonton for only a few days between international locations, they will talk about the challenges they faced filming in Siberia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Africa, Namibia and more!
