FAVA is excited to present FAVA FEST 2024!

Our annual event is a celebration of members and some of the amazing work they’ve produced over the last 24 months.

With something for everyone including documentaries, narratives, music videos, animation and more, FAVA FEST 2024 will bring the unique visions, perspectives and stories from FAVA members together under one festival. The awards will be presented at the FAVA Gala on March 23rd / 2024 at The Orange Hub (Studio A Room 381).

The Orange Hub – Friday, March 8th, 2024 

Embark on a cinematic adventure with us at FAVA’s Studio A (Room 381) of The Orange Hub for the kickoff of FAVA Fest! Brace yourself for an exhilarating night featuring 11 independent films spanning diverse genres. Picture this: cozy up with popcorn in hand, surrounded by fellow film enthusiasts, and immerse yourself in the joyous atmosphere of good old-fashioned FAVA fun. Don’t miss out on the excitement.

The Capitol Theatre, Fort Edmonton Park, Friday, March 15th, 2024

Step into a time-travelling escapade at the enchanting Capitol Theatre nestled within Fort Edmonton Park! Get ready for a mind-bending blend of analog and digital magic to transport you to a world where the past meets the future. Join us for this exhilarating journey, where the historic setting of Capitol Theatre becomes the backdrop for an unforgettable fusion of cinematic wonders. It’s a time trip like no other – don’t miss out on the magic!

Last but certainly not least, brace yourselves for the grand finale of our screenings at the ever-charming Metro Cinema, a cherished ally of FAVA. Join us for the ultimate hurrah at a venue that has stood by us through thick and thin. The excitement is palpable, the anticipation is real, and the fun is guaranteed. Get ready to wrap up the screenings with a bang at Metro Cinema – because why finish any other way?

FAVA GALA – March 23rd, 2024

FAVA GALA is a celebration of the culmination of our festival as we toast our members’ achievements in excellence. The FAVA GALA 2024 is an awards show and rainbow disco cocktail party; we invite you to dress up and celebrate with us as we hand out thousands of dollars of cash awards and prizes.

Production Grants for New Work:

  • Lisa Trofimova Video Award | The Brink | Sylvia Douglas
    • The Lisa Trofimova award supports the creation of a non-documentary video-based project. Prizes: $1000 Cash + $1500 FAVA production credit.
  • Joe Vizsmeg Documentary Award | Headspace: Artists on Mental Health | Alexis Marie Chute
    • The Joe Viszmeg award supports the creation of a documentary film or video project. Prizes: $1000 Cash + $1500 FAVA production credit.
  • Alex Thomas-Haug Emerging Artist Award | My Life FACTS | Janelle Nicol
    • The Alex Thomas Haug Award supports the creation of a new work by an emerging filmmaker. An emerging artist is one who has less than three years of practice, has completed basic training, has completed at least one independent film or video artwork. Prizes: $500 Cash + $500 FAVA production credit.
