Video Kitchen

March 4, 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM

This is our introductory class. It is a prerequisite to Main Course. Video Kitchen provides a creative place to explore and express your ideas visually. Ingredients you’ll mix together include: screenwriting, budgeting, scheduling, casting, camera technique, shot lists, storyboards, lighting, sound and editing. You’ll have lots of opportunities to get your hands dirty as you cook up your own 4-6 minute short film. Dramatic, documentary, or experimental projects are encouraged. All the necessary FAVA gear rentals are included in the class price – you couldn’t rent the gear to make your movie for less than the price of the whole class!

Please note that shooting and editing your film will take place outside of class time.

Video Kitchen Fall is moving (mostly) Online!
Due to the recent upswing in local Covid cases, we have restructured our class to bring most of the course content online. However, as hands-on learning is such a crucial element of the class, we will be providing intermittent in-person workshops structured to conform to Orange Hub safety requirements, and meet current recommendations from Alberta Health.
Here’s how it will work:
The class will primarily be held on Zoom, and will run for two hours a week instead of the originally scheduled four.
In-Person Small Cohort Workshops: March 18th, April 8th, April 29th (Times TBD). These lessons will cover the basics of camera operation, lighting, and on-location sound.
