16mm Collage & Animation
June 15, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM
$20
16mm Collage & Animation is a working lab developed by Rhayne Vermette which considers acts of exhuming images through found footage. A short lecture will precede a studio/working session. Through examples and ideas, Rhayne will draw from a web of varying topics such as the spirit of images, abstraction, personal archives, cataloguing, image as building material, and Sun Ra’s principles of precision & discipline. Participants will explore destruction/reconstruction processes which engage found footage beyond the context of moving images. The workshop will conclude with a discussion.
Rhayne Vermette is a Métis filmmaker from Canada, most known for her 2021 film, Ste. Anne, which won the Amplify Voices award for Best Canadian Film at the 2021 Toronto International Film Festival. Rhayne is coming to Edmonton for a partnered event with FAVA and the Metro Cinema, which will include a screening of St. Anne and a Q&A with Rhayne at the Metro Cinema on June 14th, followed by this incredible workshop at FAVA the next day!
