Shreela is a director, an audiophile, and a longtime supporter of FAVA.
Born and raised in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Shreela Chakrabartty grew up with recording devices that served to document their experience as a pioneer family from India settled in Canada since the 60s. Coming from a culture of oral storytelling, filmmaking became a natural extension. Shreela trained through industry mentorship through the National Film Board of Canada and affiliated organizations. A commissioned broadcast documentary and employment at FAVA launched her professional career where she began producing short films and international documentaries. Her oversees travel work became her entry point into feature dramatic films, where she offered location sound services, most notably, the Oscar nominated film, ‘Water.’ ‘Rock Paper Dice Enter’ is her feature directorial debut which hit Top5 Canadian film at the box office in June 2014 and nominated Best Dramatic Feature Film at the 2015 Alberta Film and Television Awards.
