NORTHWEST FAVA FEST
SHORT FILM CHALLENGE
CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS
To celebrate the launch of NORTHWESTFEST and the 5th annual FAVA FEST, we challenge YOU to make a short film or video.
Finalists will screen at NORTHWESTFEST and one winner will receive a prize of $250. The finalists and winner will be chosen by a jury of media artists and announced at the finalist screening.
Here’s the challenge:
Make a new film or video, 5 minutes or less, on the theme of “music” – this can mean a film ‘about’ music, inspired by music or a specific song, a childhood recollection of a memory tied to a song, etc. WE ARE NOT looking for ‘music videos’, we’re looking for films that explore the role of music in our lives.
The film can be non-fiction, fiction, experimental, or any hybrid of these.
Shoot it on film, video, your phone, whatever!
All we ask is that the film be NEW – not a re-edit of an existing film or video. This is NOT meant to exclude random footage lying around that you’ve been wondering what to do with – in fact, if this sparks you to find a home for stuff you’ve shot but didn’t know how to deploy, we think that’s great. We also think it’s great if you feel inspired to run out and shoot new stuff. Just please don’t re-cut a film or video that already exists.
You must be a FAVA member to enter. Call 780-429-1671 to get or renew your membership. As always, FAVA offers our members terrific rates on gear rentals. There are lots of other benefits of FAVA membership, including our “Free-For-All” Workshop series, and the fact that anything you make for this contest will also be eligible to be submitted to next year’s 2017 FAVA GALA Awards of Excellence – which come with $1000 cash prizes.
Formerly known as The Global Visions Film Festival, NORTHWESTFEST is Canada’s longest-running documentary festival, a 10-day celebration of film, music, and digital arts. NORTHWESTFEST.CA
