FAVA FEST: FILM AND VIDEO ARTS FESTIVAL

FAVA’s 3rd Annual FAVA FEST runs March 25-29th, 2014. Here’s the details:

Rick Gustavsen is a 39-year veteran of the Alberta motion picture industry and founding member of the Film and Video Arts Society – Alberta. As an independent documentarian, he has shot footage on every continent in the world except Antarctica. At las count, he had seven features under his belt and more than a thousand short films, videos and alternative art project. Come and help us celebrate Rick’s lifetime commitment to FAVA and some of his many accomplishments!

CINEMA EYE HONORS SHORTS 2014

The Cinema Eye Honors for Nonfiction Filmmaking recognize exemplary craft and innovation in nonfiction film. To be eligible to be nominated, a film must have played at THREE A-list international film festival. FAVA FEST brings you this rare opportunity to see the world’s best in cinematic non-fiction, in our screening of the 2014 nominated short films.

Join FAVA members Niobe Thompson and aAron Munson for an exclusive preview of selects from their upcoming CBC Nature of Things documentary series “The Human Odyssey” and some of the stories from their filmmaking adventures. Back in Edmonton for only a few days between international locations, they will talk about the challenges they faced filming in Siberia, Papua New Guinea, Philippines, South Africa, Namibia and more!

SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL SHORT FILM TOUR

A rare chance to see this 93-minute collection of eight short films from the 2013 Sundance Film Festival. Vibrant storytelling highlights the group, including fiction, documentary and animation, with five award-winners. Save yourself thousands of dollars and a trip to Park City!

FAVA GALA
SATURDAY | MAR 29 | COCKTAIL RECEPTION @ 6PM | AWARDS @ 7PM | THE WET SECRETS @ 11PM
ADMISSION BY CASH DONATION
METRO CINEMA (8712 109 ST – GARNEAU THEATRE)

FAVA rolls out the red carpet and celebrates in style. Get dressed to the nines and raise a glass to independent media art. We’re giving away $17,000 in cash awards and commissions and $11,500 in services to our membership. The gala starts with a special live collaboration between local filmmaker Wes Miron and classical pianist Cameron Watson commissioned by FAVA and the Alberta College Conservatory of Music with the support of the Universiade ’83 grant. There’s a fantastic silent auction, more newly commissioned work, and The Wet Secrets play the after party at 11pm.
