Scot  Morison

Scot Morison has an MFA in creative writing from UBC. He has published one nobel (Noble Sanctuary) and a number of short stories in literary journals and anthologies, but has worked primarily in film and television for the last 20 years. His drama credits include writing and story editing for two Canadian series, Mentors and Jake and the Kid, for which he received two AMPIA Awards. He also wrote the MOW Cabin Pressure for Crescent Entertainment and Lionsgate Television. Scot has developed series and long-form drama projects for CBC, Family, Global, CHUM and A-Channel in Canada, and for the BBC in the UK. Current projects include 50 Feet of Happiness, a feature film for Gangof2 Productions and Buffalo Gal Productions based on The Case of Lena S, a novel by Giller Prize winning author David Bergen; Young Defenders (created with Conni Massing and Curtis Gillespie), a one-hour drama series in development with CTV; and Major Junior, a one-hour drama series set in the world of juior hockey for Panacea Entertainment and Aquila Productions.

Scot also writes and directs documentaries. His credits include The Spirit of the Forest (Discovery), Catching the Chameleon (A-Channel), Seeds of Change (CLT and ACCESS), Out of the West, Between the Stones and the Ocean: A Portrait of Rudy Wiebe, and Capturing Cooperman - A Not-So Private Investigation of Howard Engel (all for Bravo), and Al Rashid: The Story of Canada's First Mosque (OMNI). He has also worked as the story consultant on Oil Change, an ongoing documentary series about the Edmonton Oilers produced by Aquila Productions for TSN (2010-2011) and Rogers Sportsnet (2011-2012).

Scot taught for 10 years in the Professional Writing program at Grant MacEwan University's School of Communications, in Edmonton. He has also taught writing for series television at the Banff Centre, and screenwriting at the Cinema Production Centre in Ramallah, Palestine. He is a past president of the Writers Guild of Alberta. He is a founding partner, along with Conni Massing and Curtis Gillespie, in The Company of Writers Inc., a multimedia production company in Edmonton.

Screenwriting Class Description:

Got a screenplay you're itching to write?  Take this opportunity to develop your short of feature film script or one-hour teleplay in an intense but supportive workshop setting.  This class will focus on crafting the concept and structure of your story, and will provide feedback on your evolving script.  Participants must enter the class with a story outline or first draft of the idea they wish to develop.

Class Payment and Cancellation Policy:

Your enrollment in any class is not guaranteed until payment is received.  Classes must be paid for at least one week before the first class.  You may cancel your enrollment in a class one week before the first class without charge.  Cancellations made less than a week before the first class will be refunded the full amount less a $50 cancellation fee.  Cancellations made after the first class will be refunded the tuition less a $50 cancellation fee and the appropriate portion of the total tuition for however many classes you attended.  There will be no reimbursements after the third class.  All classes are subject to cancellation if there are insufficient registered participants.  We will notify you regarding cancellation at least on week before the first class.  If we cancel the class, you are entitled to a full refund or you may transfer to another scheduled class, space permitting.
